MLB Auctions: Unique Lou Gehrig Day Cards for ALS Research

Eighty years after his passing, Lou Gehrig’s legacy still resonates strongly with baseball enthusiasts worldwide. In honor of Lou Gehrig Day, MLB Auctions has unveiled a distinctive initiative to raise funds for the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS, dedicated to advancing research and treatments for the disease closely associated with Gehrig.

Starting on June 2, fans can engage in bidding for exclusive Gehrig Day baseball cards, each representing a different MLB team. These unique cards have been carefully curated, with MLB writer and ALS advocate Sarah Langs selecting players based on their statistical connection to Gehrig, their support for the ALS community, or their deep passion for the game.

The auction not only features these one-of-a-kind baseball cards but also includes a special “Priceless New York Yankees” experience, courtesy of Mastercard. The event serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that affects thousands in the U.S. and millions globally, with no cure currently available.

By participating in this auction, fans are directly contributing to vital research efforts that seek to develop improved treatments and enhance the lives of those battling ALS. This initiative showcases the solidarity and influence of the baseball community in coming together for a cause that goes beyond the confines of the sport.

Among the notable players featured on these commemorative Gehrig Day cards are stars like Mike Trout representing the Angels, Yordan Alvarez for the Astros, and Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers. Each card symbolizes a link between baseball’s illustrious past and the ongoing fight against ALS, making them not just collectible items but also symbols of hope and support in the crucial battle against this debilitating disease.
