Disney’s Lorcana Celebrates Two Years at Gen Con 2025

Amidst the bustling convention halls of Gen Con 2025 in Indianapolis, there’s a particular buzz surrounding a certain card game that’s captured the hearts of Disney fans and tabletop gamers alike: Disney Lorcana. Celebrating its second anniversary, Lorcana made quite the splash with a cavalcade of announcements that not only thrilled the fans in attendance but also heralded the promise of an extraordinary upcoming year. From tantalizing new expansions to delightful surprise releases, the atmosphere crackled with the magic of beloved Disney stories reimagined in card form.

The star of this magical display is the newly unveiled Lorcana Collection Starter Set, perfect for those who’ve watched from the sidelines and are now eager to dive into the enchanting world of Disney card collecting. Scheduled to hit shelves on October 3, this set has been meticulously crafted to entice newcomers. Cloaked in the whimsical theme of Mickey Mouse as the “Brave Little Tailor,” it naturally features a charming 4-pocket portfolio, a dazzling Tinker Bell — Giant Fairy promotional card, four alluring Fabled booster packs, and a comprehensive collector’s guide. With such a delightful ensemble, novices couldn’t ask for a more inviting gateway into the world of Lorcana.

And as if the allure needs further sweetening for collectors, there’s the Elsa Gift Box featuring an exclusive Elsa — The Fifth Spirit promo card, five booster packs generously filled with potential treasures, a neat storage box, and three punch-out card dividers to maintain organization amidst the delightful chaos of collecting. At the approachable price of $29.99, these items promise to add a sprinkle of magic to any collection.

But that’s just the beginning. Gen Con 2025 didn’t stop there, teasing fans with exciting glimpses into Lorcana’s future expansions. Set to debut in the first quarter of 2026, the Winterspell expansion hints at a whimsical winter wonderland, transforming tropical settings with a snowy touch. Imagery of the mischievous Stitch and Angel spark imagination, while the intimate possibility of appearances by Elsa and Olaf adds to the anticipation of “Flurries of Fun.”

Following Winterspell’s chilly charm, the second quarter brings with it the raucous fun of familiar faces from Toy Story. Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of their toy box crew are poised to launch into Lorcana’s adventures, bringing their oodles of personality in tow.

Gen Con also revealed perhaps the most intriguing surprise — the imminent arrival of six 1,000-piece Lorcana puzzles, each a masterpiece saturated in the vivid hues of one of the game’s six ink colors. Every puzzle comes with a splendid Mickey Mouse — True Friend promo card. Already uncovered are pieces featuring Amber (Moana), Emerald (Cruella de Vil), Sapphire (Hades), and Ruby (Maleficent), with the Amethyst and Steel puzzles playing coy behind the curtains. Exclusively available through Disney Stores and their online shop, these puzzle sets retail for $29.99 across the U.S. and Canada, offering an additional layer to fans’ collection pursuits.

As we glide into the twilight of 2025, the Lorcana saga announces its final act for the year with Whispers in the Well, arriving for eager pre-order on November 7, with a full release on November 14. This set not only rounds off the year with fresh additions but introduces a fresh character type called Whispers — Glimmers in their embryonic stage. A special shout-out goes to characters from Zootopia, with Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde making their card game debut, while Gargoyles nostalgia hits a high note with Demona preparing for flight in the Lorcana universe.

Among the litany of delights, the Fabled set is poised to deliver one last surprise on August 25 at local game stores and September 5 elsewhere, boasting a revolutionary new rarity tier — Iconic, destined to outshine even the Enchanted cards in terms of rarity and commendation. Collectors will want to keep an eye out for the first two Iconics: Minnie Mouse — Sweetheart Princess and Mickey Mouse — Brave Little Prince, together forming an adorable tableau. The set also heralds the arrival of the Epic rarity, nestled between the renowned Legendary and Enchanted, with the first confirmed Epic being Stand Out from A Goofy Movie — a tribute eagerly anticipated by fans.

Gen Con 2025 made it clear — Lorcana is set to become more enchanting with every release. With a treasure trove of expansions, collectible puzzles, and iconic Disney worlds announced, the upcoming year holds the promise of incredible adventures and unforgettable journeys for players and collectors with a penchant for the magical. As Lorcana continues to grow, one thing is certain: its story in Disney magic is far from done.
