Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Shorts Up for Auction

Michael Jordan’s legacy in the world of basketball is unparalleled, and his game-worn memorabilia continues to capture the hearts of fans and collectors alike. As one of the most celebrated basketball players of all time, Jordan’s impact on the sport is immortalized in the pieces of history he left behind. One such item, his home white Chicago Bulls shorts from the 1998 NBA Finals, is set to make waves at SCP Auctions this fall.

The 1998 NBA Finals marked the culmination of Jordan’s illustrious career with the Bulls, a season that ended with his sixth NBA championship. These iconic shorts, worn by Jordan during Games 3, 4, and 5 at the United Center in Chicago, carry the weight of that historic achievement. The Bulls triumphed over the Utah Jazz 4-2 in the series, sealing their sixth title since 1991 with Jordan at the helm.

Photo-matched to the three games in Chicago by both MeiGray and Sports Investors, these shorts hold a special place in basketball history. Jordan’s standout performances in Games 3, 4, and 5, where he scored 24, 34, and 28 points, respectively, underscore the significance of these iconic trunks. Despite a loss in Game 5, the Bulls rallied to win the series in Game 6 in Utah, making these shorts the last home attire Jordan ever sported as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

The upcoming SCP Auctions Fall Premier Auction will feature these legendary shorts, with bidding opening on November 6 and closing on November 23. The pre-auction estimate of $500,000 positions the shorts to potentially set a new record for game-worn basketball apparel, highlighting the enduring allure of Jordan’s memorabilia.

Jordan’s presence in the world of sports memorabilia is undeniable, with previous auctions showcasing the immense value placed on his game-worn items. In 2022, a jersey worn by Jordan during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals fetched a staggering $10 million at Sotheby’s, setting a record for basketball memorabilia. Earlier this year, a collection of six sneakers worn by Jordan during the same Finals sold for an impressive $8 million at auction.

As one of the final relics from Jordan’s historic stint with the Chicago Bulls, these iconic shorts are expected to attract significant attention from avid collectors and fans alike. The auction promises to add another chapter to the enduring legacy of “His Airness” and his legendary tenure in the NBA. Get ready to witness history in the making as Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals shorts take center stage at SCP Auctions.
