Record-Breaking Sales at Goldin Elite Auction

The Goldin Elite Auction in August saw sports collectors and enthusiasts eagerly bidding on high-end modern sports cards and memorabilia, resulting in several items breaking the six-figure mark. The star of the auction was a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan card, going under the hammer for an impressive $244,000, setting a new record for that specific grade.

Not to be outdone, a PSA 7 Jordan Star Company rookie card recently sold for $62,000 on eBay, indicating a rising market for Jordan’s first NBA licensed trading card. Another version of the card, graded PSA 6.5, fetched $52,460 at the Goldin auction, further demonstrating the demand for this iconic piece of sports history.

While basketball may have taken the spotlight, baseball also had its fair share of remarkable sales. A unique 1-of-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of MLB sensation Mike Trout, graded PSA 9, commanded an impressive $192,030, despite the player’s injury setbacks in recent seasons. Additionally, record-breaking sales were seen for modern baseball cards belonging to Bryce Harper and Mookie Betts, both fetching staggering sums in the six-figure range.

The auction showcased the rarity and allure of 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards, with standout sales including Elly De La Cruz and Jackson Holliday’s prized cards, setting new benchmarks for these rising stars. A dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor card from the 2023-24 Topps UEFA collection also garnered significant attention, ultimately selling for $67,100 after being graded PSA 9.

On the memorabilia front, Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey stole the show, photomatched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, commanding a winning bid of $52,460. Furthermore, Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season found a new owner for $34,404. Other noteworthy sales included Aaron Judge’s rookie season jersey and a game-used Mariano Rivera jersey, adding to the allure of sports memorabilia at the auction.

Additional top sales featured in the auction included collectibles like the 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA, a 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor featuring Shohei Ohtani, and a rare 1969 Topps Football Series 1 wax box, all fetching impressive prices that underscore the enduring appeal of sports collectibles to enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Goldin’s August Elite Auction reaffirmed the enduring allure of both vintage and modern sports collectibles, showcasing record-breaking sales and highlighting the continued passion and interest in the sports memorabilia market.
